One of those subjects is schooling. I never knew how difficult it can really be to teach a child. Let alone an entire group of kids, or my own children! Ha!
I'll be honest... my oldest is pretty self-sufficient. He gets onto his school computer and does his work without being told (most days). He gets it done and only asks for help occasionally. My second born is the complete opposite. He is the one that you have to sit on to get him to stay seated and do the work! He is the one that I have to constantly watch and get after in order to do just one teensy, weensy assignment.
Recently he was supposed to write an opinion paper. I had no idea that they teach first graders how to write essays! Of course for my can't-sit-still child this is a nearly impossible task. We worked on part one and two for an entire week! It became ridiculous, so I decided to change up my "teaching" methods just a little.
I created my own opinion writing worksheets! Guess what? They worked! It made it easier for him to group things and organize his ideas and thoughts. He was able to focus on one part at a time instead of having a ton of information thrown at him and then having the expectation of putting it all together at the same time.
So if you have a child like my number two who has a hard time getting the work done when writing an essay, here are the worksheets I created that helped my child. I hope they help yours too!
